I spoke with him a bit, but I admit I lost interest when I found out his initial comment was made by a program and that I was far from the only one.

Yes, exactly that. The others who've commented have done so because something about my profile caught their interest.
It hasn't always led to much beyond the initial conversation over the devices, but at least the interest was genuine.

I suppose not every volunteer citizen can be perfect.
I would suggest some filtering system for the application but I also suppose it defeats the purpose of the simple left/right swiping.

No, but that might be for the best. I imagine perfection would get rather boring rather quickly.
It might. But then again, it could definitely be useful in weeding out those whose interests aren't compatible with our own.
